The Kind Of Glow You Can’t Bottle
When was the last time you really laughed?
Not the lame courtesy chuckle to someone trying to be funny... I mean the kind where you can’t breathe, your eyes are watering and for a minute you completely forget whatever was stressing you out.
I’ve been thinking about laughter a lot lately.
We spend a lot of time talking about glow from the outside — skincare, makeup, all the things we put on ourselves.
But there’s another kind of glow.
It shows up when you’re laughing. Or in music. Like when a song comes on and you start dancing even though you’re definitely not a dancer. When you light a candle at the end of the day, stretch your body and finally feel yourself soften a little.
Life can get really heavy. And I’m not suggesting we laugh our way out of everything.
But sometimes I remember that this whole human experience is also completely wacky.
And my response is basically… well what the hell, let's be silly.
Put on the comedian. Turn up the song. Laugh at something stupid.
Because dancing is beauty too.
Laughing is beauty too.
And that good-vibe glow we’re all chasing?
A whole lot of it comes from within.
If you need a little help getting started, this John Mulaney bit gets me every time.
